PS5 NAT Type Checker
Estimate your NAT type for PlayStation 5 multiplayer and party chat. Fixes below for NAT Type 2 / 3.
Run NAT type test
Tests against four STUN servers. Takes about 4 seconds.
PS5 NAT types
- NAT Type 1 (Open) — direct connection to the internet. Best.
- NAT Type 2 (Moderate) — behind a router, but properly mapped. Fine for most games.
- NAT Type 3 (Strict) — restrictive. Party chat and matchmaking often fail.
Fixing NAT Type 3 on PS5
- Enable UPnP on your router. Easiest fix.
- Forward PSN ports to your PS5's local IP:
- TCP: 80, 443, 1935, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 3479, 49152–65535
- Reserve the PS5's IP via DHCP reservation so the rule doesn't break after a reboot.
- Bridge your modem if you have a modem + separate router (double NAT).
- Test for CGNAT — if your public IP doesn't match what your router shows on its WAN port, your ISP is using CGNAT and port forwarding can't help.
